“There’s no such thing as a ‘normal day’ and that’s the best part of this job.  One day, I’m testing flow capacity in a muddy field, the next day, I’m in the office scoping a job”

10 Minutes With… Dai Lloyd

Dai is our Groundworks & Engineers Team Leader, controlling our many engineering and groundworks projects.  He first started at Mayglothling when he was 21 and in that time has gained a wide range of experience, across the business.  What is it about his job that makes him look forward to a day in a muddy field?  Find out here…

“I grew up in a farming environment and was driving diggers from an early age.  I’ve always been interested by mechanical things, how they work and what you can do with them.

“I started in the Building team but after a while, I wanted to drive trucks so I got my HGV licence and became a Driver.  After doing that for a couple of years, I decided that I wanted to get involved with the Engineering side.

“I got the qualifications I needed, to comply with the safety requirements of the job and joined the team.  Before long, I found myself supervising teams and then leading jobs.

“Today, I oversee all our ongoing engineering jobs and scoping future projects.  On large-scale projects, I work closely with Chris Marshall, our General Manager.  I think we make a good team and we’re constantly learning from each other.

“Mayglothling is a great place to work.  It’s a very strong team where you’re encouraged to give your ideas and to solve problems – and you’re listened to when you do.  There’s also a lot of pretty cool machinery to use and I’ll never stop loving that!

“There’s no such thing as a ‘normal day’ for me and that’s the best part of this job.  One day, I could be testing flow capacity in a muddy field, the next day, I’m in the office scoping a job so we can quote for it.

“I’ve never liked the idea of a job which is just a case of ‘do this all again tomorrow’.  I never get that feeling – and I look forward to every new day!”
