10 Minutes With… Emma Smith

Doing this job in December is totally different from doing it in June.  I’m always looking at the weather forecast.  It’s amazing how the weather can be so different only a few miles away!

10 Minutes With… Emma Smith

Emma is our Operations Administrator, ensuring that every day’s jobs are carried out in time,  When last minute changes are necessary, or if delays happen, It’s Emma who changes the schedule and ensures all the drivers are continually updated.  What’s it like to be tasked with keeping everyone happy, every day?  Find out here…

“I joined Mayglothling in the Sales team, four years ago.  After about six months I moved to the Operations team, as a receptionist who helped to schedule the tanker work.

“Within a year, I was co-ordinating each driver’s working day.  I soon found out that by building a rapport with each driver, we were able to get more jobs done.  People are all different and when you really need someone’s help to go above and beyond, it helps enormously to understand them as an individual.

“Because most of our tanker work is done outside, a lot depends on the weather and the amount of light in the day.  Doing this job in December is totally different from doing it in June.  I’m always looking at the weather forecast.  It’s amazing how the weather can be so different only a few miles away!

“I enjoy doing this job, and I love working here.  It can sometimes be a challenge to make everything happen to keep customers happy but I also like to learn ways to improve – and that can happen every day.  I just get on with it!

“I also like the fact that, even with all this technology to help us plan and carry out the jobs we do, it still always comes down to people skills to make the biggest difference.”
